Shelby Township Clerk Stanley Grot was recognized at the Aug. 4 Board of Trustees meeting for meeting the program criteria to obtain the prestigious Certified Michigan Municipal Clerk designation.
"This certification only affirms what those of us who work with (Grot) every day already know, and that is that he is a first-rate clerk completely dedicated to serving the residents of Shelby Township," Township Supervisor Richard Stathakis said.
"Whether it's expanding opportunities for residents to vote, processing passports as a means of generating more revenue for the township or running flawless elections, (Grot) leads by example and always does so with the interests of our residents."
Grot, a Republican, was appointed to the position of Shelby Township clerk in February 2012.
He previously served as a Sterling Heights councilman, Macomb County Commissioner, Macomb County deputy treasurer, assistant Secretary of State, and as a public relations representative under Attorney General Bill Schuette.
"I began this certification three years ago to reassure residents, taxpayers and voters in Shelby Township that I take the Office of the Township Clerk very seriously," Grot said. "The CMMC certification has allowed me to stay on top of the ever-changing election laws and professional public manager responsibilities that municipal clerks have to uphold."
Grot was recognized for his achievement at the Aug. 4 meeting when Stathakis read a congratulatory letter from Joe Bridgman, president of the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks.
In it, Bridgman announced that Shelby Township Clerk Stanley Grot had met the program criteria and has attained the prestigious CMMC certification.
"Stanley's commitment to education and desire to attain certification clearly defines commitment to the clerk's profession and (the Shelby Township) community," Joe Bridgman writes.
"On behalf of the MAMC, I ask that you join us in congratulating (Grot) for this accomplishment and well deserved recognition."
